Here are a few things I love to layer into the holidays, things that don’t demand more time, just a little more intention:
Let your kids’ art become the decor.
Not just the ornaments. Bring out the pieces they’ve made throughout the year… ceramic handprints hung with the stockings, tiny school photos tucked into miniature frames, little drawings and old letters to Santa gathered into a “holiday memory book” that only appears in December. When something shows up once a year, it becomes part of the magic.

Add a touch of handmade.
Simple, nostalgic projects have a way of grounding the season. Recreating something like these tin ornaments, or some hand painted wooden ornaments like these. Grab some air-dry clay for a fun project with kiddos. And if you’d rather skip the crafting, local fairs and small makers offer beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces that bring that same soulful energy into your home.

Revisit your childhood traditions.
Growing up, decorating the tree was chaos and comedy, my siblings and I teasing each other as we unboxed our old, glue and popsicle-stick creations. But the moment that mattered most was always the last: my dad on a step stool placing the pièce de résistance. A crocheted angel my great-grandmother made and gifted my mom years ago. After years of being packed away in old cardboard boxes, she eventually didn’t survive. I found a lovely stand-in on Etsy (here’s a similar one in case your looking). She’s not quite the same, but it brings the memory right back to life.
Decorate with nature.
Fresh flowers are a must and the holidays are no exception. A fresh wreath, tree, garland, whatever works to bring in an extra dose of Wood energy. Colorful blooms and the scent of flowers and foliage bring all the spirit (and Chi) in. I love foraging this time of year, using what’s available. Decorating with a fallen limb/branch or a bit of rosemary from the yard feel festive and simple. I also always love orange this time of year. A bowl of sunshine on the counter or dried and used for anything from decor to potpourri.

And when we do need the things… the gifts… the decor… the rest. I’ll be sharing a small, intentional guide of favorites soon… pieces that feel meaningful, well-made, and worth bringing into your home. Stay tuned…
